Heavy Haulers

Lafarge Cement’s Dunbar Works in Scotland has recently purchased two Terex TR100 rigid trucks to assist in restoration work.

Dunbar operates an EMAS environmental management system to track and ensure continuous improvement in environmental performance. To help reduce the site’s impact, Dunbar’s quarry team works the limestone using strip-mining techniques and utilizes the overburden to reinstate the worked-out areas.

The two 91-tonne payload TR100’s have been employed to move over 10,000 tonnes of limestone and overburden each day. Plant manager Alistair Hill said: ‘We chose the TR100 model because the layout of the truck is user-friendly and the truck as a whole is reliable, simple and easy-to-use compared to many of the other trucks we trialled, some of which had over 18 moving parts in the front axle alone. Simpler operating mechanisms and fewer parts mean our maintenance costs are lower.’
