Geo-trail
Bardon Aggregates have teamed up with The Forestry Commission, Shropshire County Council and local geology groups to help develop the new Bardon Geo-Trail around their Haughmond Hill Quarry, in Shropshire.
As part of the partnership, Bardon Aggregates are building a viewing platform that will allow the public to overlook the quarry’s operations for the first time. To complement this, greywacke from Haughmond Hill Quarry and limestone from Lea Quarry have been placed at various points around the trail to highlight the geology of the local area.
Thomas Clifford, geologist and geodiversity manager at Bardon Aggregates, said the trail would explain the fundamental reasons for quarrying by linking the unique geology of the area with the raw materials and products that are derived from it, as well as showing how these products are essential to everyday life.
