DB Schenker Rail investing in ‘Super 60’ locos
Company creating fleet of high-power locomotives to meet growing demand from bulk freight customers
DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd are investing £3 million in the upgrade of seven Class-60 locomotives to create a new fleet of ‘Super 60s’.
During the first half of this year, the seven locomotives will be overhauled in a programme to improve their reliability and to extend the life of each engine by 15 years.
The company also plans to refurbish a further 14 Class-60 locomotives, creating a fleet of over 20 ‘Super 60s’ and ensuring that DB Schenker Rail have the capacity to meet growing demand from their bulk customers to move more by rail.
These high-power locos will be especially suited for customers in the aggregate sector, where a high-performance locomotive is required.
