Common 15-litre base engine tailored for use with advanced diesel, natural gas, or hydrogen

CUMMINS Inc. have launched a new 15-litre diesel engine for the off-highway market. The Next Generation X15 engine is said to maintain reliability and reduce operating costs, while delivering reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency benefits.

As part of the Cummins HELM platform, the engine offers customers the option to choose the fuel type that best suits their business needs by offering a common base engine design with cylinder heads and fuel systems specifically tailored for a single-fuel advanced diesel, natural gas, or hydrogen.

The Next Gen X15 for off-highway applications offers ratings up to 522kW (700hp) and a peak torque of 3,200Nm targeted for Stage V emissions and beyond. It is optimized with fuel consumption as low as 180g/kWh, reducing total cost of ownership and lifetime CO2 emissions. It also has extended maintenance intervals up to 1,000h, reducing service costs and downtime.

Beau Lintereur, executive director off highway at Cummins, said: ‘The Next Gen X15 is a state-of-the-art, clean-sheet engine designed with more capability and less environmental impact. The Cummins X15 offers fantastic power density for high duty cycle applications, meaning it can displace larger comparative engines, reducing operating costs and overall emissions from equipment in field.’
