Closed-circuit breathing apparatus

The BioPak 240 from Scott Health & Safety is a self-contained breathing apparatus specially designed for use in environments needing long duration respiratory protection.

The apparatus delivers 4h of breathing time, offering increased duration, low usage and maintenance costs and, more importantly, greater protection.

BioPak 240 works by recirculating a large portion of the user’s exhaled gas, which passes through a patented CO2 absorbent and back into a breathing chamber, where fresh oxygen is added.

For added protection, a spring-loaded diaphragm in the breathing chamber maintains the positive pressure in the system.

Another key feature of the BioPak 240 is user comfort, thanks to an ergonomic, body-contoured design, providing for a slim profile and allowing easy use under protective gear.

The breather apparatus features a fully padded harness system, which positions the unit on the hips to reduce fatigue and can be adjusted to fit any user size.

There is also a built-in frozen gel tube insert that reduces normal heat build-up and retention, keeping breathing gas temperature at a comfortable level.

For added safety – visual, audible and mechanical alarms alert the user to low oxygen, low battery, high temperature and missing coolant canister.

Tony Pickett, air supplied product manager for Scott Health & Safety, commented: ‘While all closed-circuit breathing apparatus perform the same basic long duration respiratory protection function, the BioPak 240 re-breather features numerous innovations that set it apart from the competition.’
