CEMEX facilities first to gain CSC certification
Five plants in California receive Responsible Sourcing Certification from the Concrete Sustainability Council
FIVE CEMEX concrete plants in California have earned Responsible Sourcing Certification from the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC), becoming the first facilities of any company in the US to receive this designation.
Commenting on the certification, Ignacio Madridejos, president of CEMEX USA, said: ‘Sustainability is a guiding principle at every CEMEX facility. We are proud of these plants for becoming the first facilities in the country to attain CSC certification, demonstrating their leadership in environmental responsibility.
‘Their impressive achievement will inspire others within CEMEX and across the industry. We applaud their strong commitment to manufacturing sustainable products through sustainable practices.’
Launched in 2017 by 11 founding members – including the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the Portland Cement Association, and CEMEX – the CSC aims to improve the transparency of the concrete sector and highlight the essential role of concrete in creating a sustainable construction sector by getting recognition in green procurement government policies and building rating systems.
The CSC acts as a responsible-sourcing certification system, grading building materials facilities on responsible environmental, social and governance practices throughout supply chains.
The five CEMEX plants, located in Oakland, San Carlos, Santa Clara, San Jose, and San Francisco, met the CSC requirements, as confirmed through an audit by SGS, an independent third-party certification body.
