Benchmark Award
Tarmac have been awarded The Wildlife Trusts’ Biodiversity Benchmark for the work undertaken at all seven of their Northumberland quarries – the first time the award has been granted for this number of sites in one area. Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs), which have been developed by Tarmac and independent ecologists for 120 sites, including all of their active quarries in the UK, were a crucial factor in achieving the accreditation in Northumberland.
Simon Phillips, Tarmac’s Northern Aggregate Products area director said: ‘As a business, we are committed to protecting wildlife and managing the environment at our sites. Northumberland has been at the forefront of innovation around biodiversity and we’re proud to have achieved this Benchmark accreditation. We have been working really hard to put BAPs in place across the business and are the first quarrying company in the UK to have them at all active quarries.’
