Bell help complete £93 million bypass

A major £93 million project to build the new A30 bypass, running between Bodmin and Indian Queens in Cornwall, has recently been completed by main contractors Alfred McAlpine. Work on the seven-mile dual carriageway involved Bell Equipment supplying 10 of their articulated dumptrucks for shifting approximately 1,000,000m3 of rock and soil as part of the project.

The bulk of the materials, cut away from sections along the new bypass, were used to fill certain areas of the A30, rather than being transported off site. Alfred McAlpine chose six Bell 40-tonne ADTs and four 25-tonne machines for the two-year Highways Agency scheme.

The machines were picked to work on the project because of their notable fuel-efficiency. ‘Low fuel consumption is a big plus point these days and it is becoming much more of an issue,’ said an Alfred McAlpine spokesperson. ‘Fuel-efficiency reduces our customers’ costs, and we should all be doing what is right for the environment.’
