BAP Success

Tarmac’s Northumberland quarries collected a major prize at last month’s Sustain magazine awards event in London.

The company took home the Natural England-sponsored Award for Biodiversity, in recognition of the work that it has done to create Biodiversity Action Plans at each quarry in the region. Simon Phillips, director for Tarmac’s Northern area, said: ‘We’re delighted to have won this high-profile biodiversity award. After being given a Biodiversity Benchmark by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust last year for our Northumberland BAPs, this award really is the icing on the cake.’

Tarmac were the first UK organization to have BAPs in place at all of their active quarries and the Biodiversity Benchmark received from The Wildlife Trusts marked the first time this award had been given to such a large number of sites in one area.
