Aughey launch ‘hybrid technology’ horizontal screen

Irish quarry equipment manufacturers Aughey Plant International used Hillhead 2007 to launch the latest model in their Horizon range of high-capacity mobile screening machines. Complementing the A8 three-product primary screen and A4 five-product aggregate screen, the new, more compact A6 version is aimed at mainstream quarry and recycling applications. According to Aughey, the machine is lighter and more compact than its direct competitors, but has greater production capacity owing to its aggressive horizontal screening action.

Among the key features of the machine is its powertrain, which incorporates diesel engine, hydraulic and electric technologies. A generator directly mounted on the 100hp Deutz engine powers the electric motors which drive the discharge conveyors and feed mechanism, while the screenbox and tracks are hydraulically driven.

As well as offering the benefits of lower fuel consumption and operating costs, the A6 has a fully automated start-up and shutdown sequence, while integrated belt sensing and feedback to the crusher is available as an optional extra.

The machine has been designed to require minimal maintenance with simple fault identification and diagnosis together with a central control panel to help minimize downtime.

Fitted with a 12ft x 5ft (3.6m x 1.5m) end-tensioned screenbox, the A6 is designed to accept a number of interchangeable ‘feed options’, including a metal apron feeder for primary screening applications and a belt feeder with or without a grid hopper for secondary screening or recycling applications.

The triple-shaft mechanism is said to create an extremely aggressive screening action, which can be easily adjusted to give a range of amplitudes and ‘G’ forces, depending on the type of material and product sizes required. The rate of material travel over the screen deck can also be adjusted – faster for higher tonnages or more slowly for increased screening action where materials are harder to separate, giving a cleaner end product.

The compact design and low overall weight of the A6 simplify and reduce the cost of transportation, while the machine’s on-board folding conveyors permit rapid set up once on site.
