Another new-generation mining excavator from Liebherr

FOLLOWING hard on the heels of the recently launched R 9250 Litronic excavator, Liebherr have introduced the new R 9350 Litronic which, as a 350-tonne-class machine, supersedes the successful R 994B. This new-generation excavator is available in either backhoe or faceshovel configuration and, equipped with an 18m³ bucket, is capable of filling a 100-tonne dumptruck in around three passes.

The R 9350 Litronic is powered by a QSK45 Cummins V12, turbocharged, aftercooled diesel engine, which develops 1,120kW (1,500hp) at 1,800 rev/min with a direct-injection system and two separate water cooling circuits. Engine idling is sensor-controlled and there is also engine speed sensing throughout the entire rev/min range, providing integration of the engine with other machine systems.

The excavator’s three-piece undercarriage features two axial piston pumps per side frame and Liebherr planetary reduction travel gear; travel speed is up to 3km/h. The D12 tracks feature maintenance-free, 850mm forged double-grouser pads with automatic track tensioning.

The spacious operator’s cab is identical to the proven R 996 Litronic cab in terms of specification and ergonomic design. It is fully air-conditioned and the driver is protected from sunlight and noise by blinds, tinted windows and high-quality sound insulation, while the generously dimensioned glazing provides an excellent view of the work area.

The machine is operated by precise and responsive electro-hydraulic twin multi-directional joystick controls, and the driver can obtain up-to-the-minute operational data via the Litronic system and its ergonomically designed display monitor.

For regular maintenance, servicing and refuelling, the R 9350 is equipped with a hydraulically actuated service door, which provides convenient access at ground level for oil changes, replenishment of the automatic central lubrication system reservoir and refilling of the 5,350-litre (1,414-gallon) fuel tank.

In backhoe configuration, the maximum reach of the R 9350 at ground level is 16.3m, maximum tooth height is 15.4m and dump height is 10.2m. Optimum digging depth is 9.5m and digging and breakout forces are 880kN and 1,020kN respectively.

In faceshovel configuration, the maximum reach at ground level is 13.75m, maximum dump height is 11.2m and crowd length is 5.2m. Maximum crowd force is 1,300kN and, at ground level, 1,040kN. Breakout force is 1,060kN.

With the launch of the R 9350 Litronic, Liebherr are continuing with their new model designation for their mining and quarrying excavator programme. The initial ‘9’ remains the product identifier number for hydraulic excavators but this is now followed by a three-digit number representing the operating weight category for the particular model.
