Ammann success at Llanwern
Ammann Equipment Ltd, who have relocated to a new site in Stratford-upon-Avon, last year installed five plants in the UK. These comprise: a Global 160 (Quick) at Immingham, a Universal 240 in Norwich, two Uni-globe 240s in Ireland, and a Universal 160 for Tarmac in Llanwern.
David McClelland, Tarmac’s production manager, commented: ‘Right from the outset of the project, Ammann entered into a partnership with us to ensure that the asphalt plant and associated equipment supplied met our very specific needs, especially as the coating of blast-furnace slag and steel slag is not commonplace in the UK.’
Ammann worked closely with Phil Jones, Tarmac’s engineering manager, to ensure that all facets of the project were designed, re-engineered or modified to take into account the intricacies of their feedstock while also ensuring maximization of throughput and continuation of their commitment to product quality and consistency. Once the amendments were agreed the installation of the plant progressed quickly, with the commissioning of the project completed within the agreed timetable and with no issues raised with regards to safety, health or the environment.
One of Tarmac’s main objectives of the project was to ensure that the equipment provided was not only capable of meeting their customers’ needs, but also embraced all aspects of good practice. This was achieved with the support and commitment of Ammann.
During 2006 Ammann will be launching a number of new products including:
the Black Move, a 200 tonnes/h self-erecting plant that negates the need for craneage; and the Just Black, a small UK plant that has a capacity of 150 tonnes/h.
The company’s recent expansion has allowed then to stock a wide range of spares on site and to have a team of burner, mechanical, electrical and software service and maintenance engineers on hand.
