This is a fantastic opportunity to join our ambitious and values-driven company as a Quarry Manager.
Reporting to our Operations Director, you’ll lead a dedicated team to ensure our quarry runs smoothly and efficiently. With a clear focus on health and safety, operational excellence and cost control, you’ll maximise the potential of our strategically important mineral reserve and make best use of our infrastructure. I believe this role provides a chance to make a huge impact on Wainwright, which has been quarrying in the Mendips since 1891. With the right Quarry Manager, we’ll continue developing our aggregates business to reach new markets, both locally and further afield.
As Quarry Manager, you will also be responsible for:
Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations
Proactively managing an effective maintenance scheme for the quarry plant and equipment
Maintaining and implementing Standard Operating Procedures and risk assessments
Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all the site’s equipment (fixed and mobile) with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
Issuing safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
Proactively managing both mandatory and developmental training of your staff
Collating and reporting monthly performance KPIs and driving operational performance
Managing compliance with all legislation, permissions and licences that relate to the Aggregates department
To succeed as Wainwright’s Quarry Manager you will have:
Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
Working knowledge of production processes, Health, Safety and Environmental policies
SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6
Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
An ability to multitask and confidently manage change
A good understanding of different methods of winning and extracting raw material
Knowledge of techniques employed to load and transport extracted minerals
Working knowledge handling raw materials including feeding, crushing, screening, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques
A sound knowledge of crushing and screening using static plant, maintenance activities on both fixed and mobile plant
Experience in blasting, able effectively to plan and organise quarrying development operations
An understanding of engineering and statutory responsibilities and familiarisation of all aspects of health, safety and environmental legislation
IOSH/NEBOSH advantageous
Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology advantageous
A customer-focused mindset, ensuring service and quality standards are met and maintained while maximising operational performance
Excellent communication skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the business • Strong self-motivation with the ability to manage and organise the operational team
