Volvo back in the frame at PP O’Connor
Manchester-based PP O’Connor Ltd have renewed their acquaintance with Volvo Construction Equipment products by purchasing a range of equipment.
This latest purchase renews an association dating from when the company took delivery of the first Volvo 36-tonne machine to be modified by Kokurek with three-piece demolition equipment some six years ago and as far back as 1989 when they purchased an Akerman H10BLC.
Since then the experience of poor service and support with other makes prompted company director Justin O’Connor to reconsider his supplier of choice, which has resulted in the delivery of a new EC700C – the first C model of this size to be retailed in Great Britain, along with a new EC360C equipped for secondary demolition. At the same time an additional order for two DD38 high-frequency tandem rollers and two A25E articulated haulers was placed for incremental contracts being undertaken by PP O’Connor.
The new EC700C has been modified by Kokurek Excavators of Ipswich and features a modular boom joint that allows the machine to be operated either with long-reach demolition equipment or as a backacter. The three-piece demolition rig features a telescopic extension of 3m to give a maximum reach of 35m at the attachment pin. Maximum attachment weight at this height is 2.5 tonnes. The rig also offers a horizontal forward reach of 17m at a height of 24m. A hammer/shear circuit with large bore return line, and rotation circuit are fitted on the equipment along with a water-suppression system powered by a hydraulic pump.
The operator’s compartment can be completely tilted for an uninterrupted field of view of the task in hand. This is further enhanced with a close-circuit camera mounted on the underside of the fly arm just prior to where the attachment is fitted.
Heavy-duty belly plates, side-impact protection rails, heavy-duty FOGS guard and bucket cylinder guard for the standard backacter arm complete the extra guarding on the machine.
The all-up operating weight of the machine, including additional counterweight and the interchangeable pre boom, is approximately 79.6 tonnes.
