PowerHaul runs first loaded trial
TWO years since the initial concept and order, the first pair out of a total of six new PowerHaul locomotives were delivered to Freightliner Heavy Haul last month and have commenced operational trials.
In its first trial run, locomotive 70002 hauled approximately 1,330 tonnes of coal from Stoke Gifford, near Bristol, to Rugeley Power Station before discharging its cargo and running back with the empty set of 19 hopper wagons.
Freightliner Heavy Haul say the new locomotives will introduce state-of-the-art technology to the UK rail freight market, delivering increased tractive effort, haulage and acceleration capabilities while lowering carbon emissions.
The remaining four PowerHaul locomotives are expected to arrive at Newport Docks this week.
