Ambitious plans for Cornish secondary aggregates
With existing supply agreements coming to an end, Imerys are looking to shape future development
IMERYS Minerals Ltd are actively developing the growth of their secondary aggregates (china clay waste) products from Cornwall and are currently seeking partners to realize the full potential of the materials in the markets they serve.
As existing supply agreements for feed material come to an end, the company is offering interested parties the chance to appraise the opportunity for further development of its levy-exempt aggregates beyond 2013.
It is often quoted that for every tonne of clay produced, another nine tonnes of waste arise. Not all of this is suitable for processing into a saleable aggregates products, but several million tonnes are.
In addition to some 250 million tonnes of previously tipped material, more than 4 million tonnes of rock and stent and more than 2 million tonnes of sand are generated by Imerys annually in mid-Cornwall.
All of this resource is conveniently located in close proximity to Imerys-owned rail sidings and the company’s deep-water terminal at Fowey Docks.
With existing supply agreements ending in 2014, Imerys say that in the coming months they will be shaping the future of this activity.
