Senior Geologist

  • Location: Sheffield (flexible)

SLR’s Engineering team boasts a wealth of expertise across the European region (and wider global business) within diverse sectors including water, mining, waste, power, infrastructure, and the built environment.

We are looking for a Senior grade Geology consultant, who is an experienced Minerals Geologist working predominantly in the quarrying / extractive industry, to join a growing team of professionals and support business growth in this sector in the North of the UK. Preferably based in our Sheffield office (although we are flexible), you will be covering northern England, therefore a 'central' location would be advantageous due to periods of site work and travel throughout the UK (and potentially overseas too).

What you will do:

You will be using your knowledge to design and run drilling/exploration programmes for quarry management and other extractive industry clients. You will also be competent in quarry design and phasing. Ideally, you'll have experience in a range of geological settings, covering both hard rock and sand & gravel you'll be proficient with industry-specific software such as LSS, Holebase, GIS etc. SLR is committed to the health and safety of its staff, clients and the public and the role will mean you are a professional who can ensure that all our work is carried out safely and to the highest standards.

As an experienced professional, you will have attained CGeol or equivalent status, or be able to do shortly after joining. You will be expected to lead and manage projects and have an opportunity to develop your network within the industry.

  • H&S Risk Assessment and Planning, with ongoing monitoring of same.
  • Drill programme design and supervision.
  • Open pit & Earthworks design and phasing.
  • Some experience with data management, modelling, and analysis including geological, operational, lasting/vibration, hydrogeological, and quality control work streams.
  • Geotechnical Management (in line with Quarries Regulations (1999)).
  • Experience in range of geological settings, e.g. Sand & Gravel, Limestone, Clay, Coal, or hard rock deposits.
  • Good software skills, e.g. GIS, LSS, CAD, gINT, specialist geological modelling software.
